Jae Tips, who was up in the Wakefield neighborhood of the Bronx, has been promoting culture for many years. The multi-hyphenate has built a fan base through his music, custom-fitted baseball hats, and online persona. But sneakers have powered the majority of his activities. At ComplexCon this weekend, Jae Tips will debut his first-ever retail shoe partnership, a Saucony Grid Azura 2000.
The Massachusetts-based company Saucony Originals doesn’t participate in the mainstream sneaker zeitgeist. But over the past few years, it has collaborated with a number of small-scale creative forces to produce some innovative and appealing products and campaigns. The self-described “Uptown Savior” has been making a killing with a multitude of multi-colored goods. Moreover, it includes pins, tote bags, and more. Jae Tips’ initial project with the business is no different.
Jae Tips’ The Grid Azura 2000 is consistent with his other works. The shoe box, which jokingly reads “JAE TIPS FIRST SHOE IN COLLABORATION WITH SAUCONY ORIGINALS,” immediately draws attention to itself as well as its contents. Moreover, Diverse hues and designs are all across the entire sneaker. Pink-themed “GRID”-branded midsoles are enhanced by a semi-transparent outsole. Also, The mesh construction on the top has a variety of materials. From purple suede to the kind of flowery design you might find on your grandmother’s sofa. On the medial heel of the midsole, there is a text that reads “Remember Who Fronted,” and “Made by Jae Tips” is embroidered on the inner heel. Last but not least, “SAVIOR WORLDWIDE” appears on the tongue of the left shoe, referencing Jae Tips’ company.
